Scientist II / Sr. Scientist, Computational Biology
Vesigen Therapeutics is a biotechnology company developing novel therapeutics enabled by engineering naturally existing vesicles for delivery. Vesigen’s patented technology, ARMMs (ARRDC1 Mediated Microvesicles), can precisely deliver a wide range of payloads, including gene editing complexes, proteins, and RNAs in vivo. Our team of seasoned drug hunters is committed to leveraging the novel ARMMs technology to develop transformative medicines and address unmet medical needs.
The Role
Vesigen is seeking a creative, highly motivated, and collaborative Computational Biologist to join our team and contribute to the development of the company’s exciting ARMMs technology across multiple disease areas. This role will work cross-functionally to support the R&D team with key data analysis. This role can expect to be a key contributor to both our drug discovery programs and the development of our platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead or assist with drug discovery programs by conducting experiments and computational analysis of datasets, and interpretation of results
- Support platform evolution activities through computational analysis of in-house generated or publicly accessible RNAseq, sc/snRNAseq, or other relevant datasets
- Rigorously build/iterate computational pipelines to support frequently conducted analyses in the research team; support team across multiple functions
- Collaborate with other team members to design properly-powered experiments that can generate high-quality results
- Communicate results to team members across the organization
- Maintain good organization and storage of datasets generated in-house for future analysis
- Document analyses to support IP filings
- Build a good understanding of activities across team and establish strong and collaborative relationships with peers
Qualifications:
- D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline combined with training and hands-on experience in Computational Biology and 0-5 years post-graduate experience or BS/MS with 5+ years of industry experience
- Strong experimentalist as evidenced by contribution in a wet lab setting and in silico analyses, and through peer-reviewed publications
- Strong background in molecular biology, including gene editing, RNAi, transcriptional and/or proteomic profiling, sc/snRNAseq, and other similar disciplines, ideal
- Experience utilizing Python, R, and other programming languages (eg C++) as well as the development of bioinformatics pipelines; familiarity with Linux-based operating systems a plus
- Familiarity with analysis of RNAseq, DNAseq, and mass spectrometry proteomics datasets; previous experience with single-cell/nucleus RNAseq a plus
- Experience in basic Neuroscience, Ocular, or immunology research; previous experience in image analysis a plus
- Expertise in conducting novel, quantitative analyses as part of research and discovery
- Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships that facilitate effective collaboration across cross-functional teams
- Track record of excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to provide concise summaries of complex data to enable decision-making
